Combining Your Vocation, Education and Career

I think that some people seem to misunderstand my content, especially my content on the vocations of married women.
ย .
They seem to think that I am advocating for all married women to abandon their careers and sit at home, cooking, cleaning, looking after their kids and husbands, and whiling away the days, eating bonbons.
ย .
Nothing could be further from the truth.
ย .
My opinion, and this is heavily influenced by my spiritual mentors including people like Mother Angelica, Fr Ripperger, Fr Wolfe, amongst others, is that: if you are called to a particular vocation, you have the duty and obligation to that vocation, and that vocation MUST take priority over everything else.
ย .
You can listen to Fr Ripperger’s talks on this at the Sensus Fidelium YouTube channel.
ย .
My vocation to marriage and family comes first and takes priority.
ย .
Even if I was not a SAHM, my vocation would still come first.
ย .
I had already determined before marriage that I would not be working outside of the home and I planned my career and interests around that.
ย .
Plus, God brought into my life a man who insisted that I be a SAHM because he was thrilled to be the main breadwinner.
ย .
Even though my husband did not want me to work at all, a few years into our marriage, I was itching for something to do, and using my existing skills, education and knowledge, I was able to come up with a business, a cottage industry, that I could do from home.
ย .
I enjoy it very much, but my vocation still takes priority.
ย .
Now, if you feel called to marriage or to religious life, but you still want to get an education, go for it, but realise that once you enter your vocation, your priority should be your vocation and you definitely should not be furthering your career at the expense of your young children.
ย .
My mother was an educator and head teacher.ย  She devoted her time to her six children, when we were all young, and returned full time to work after we reached school age.
.
At the grand age of 52, she even achieved a PhD in Statistics.ย  Incredibly smart and very maternal, she is one of my main role models, after Our Lady, with whom she shares the same name, Mary.
ย .
As a woman called to marriage and family, your priority is your husband and your children, and they deserve your focus and full attention.
ย .
It is vital for the proper development of the child that its mother is at home during its first 3-4 years of life and if you are sending your child to daycare, I personally find it a very selfish act.
ย .
Do not get a dog if you are not prepared to take it walkies.ย  Do not have a family if you are not prepared to properly care for the offspring that you will bring into this world.
ย .
To think that caring for your children simply entails meeting their physical needs (shelter, food, and housing) without also meeting their psychological and emotional needs is immature, irresponsible, neglectful and dangerous to the child.
ย .
To understand the importance of the above and the damage that daycare does to young children, see THIS, THIS, THIS, THIS, THISย and THIS
ย .
Don’t just drift through life.ย  Have a definite plan for your life.
ย .
Work out how you will manage your career around your family or vocation, NOT the other way around.
ย .
Make provision and allowances for the first few years of your child’s life.
ย .
You are more than welcome to return to the workforce full time after your children are of school age, but, for the love of everything righteous, BE THERE for them in the first few years.
ย .
This nun is a clear example of what I mean.
ย .
Sister Noella Marcellino Ph.D. is a Benedictine nun of the Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, CT, where she began making the Abbeys Bethlehem cheese in 1977 according to a traditional technique taught to her by a native of the Auvergne France.
She received her doctorate in Microbiology in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Connecticut in 2003.
ย .
She is called to religious life, but she is also able to further her education and never at the expense of her vocation as a nun.ย  Her vocation comes first.
ย .
Countless of other nuns and religious sisters through history have been able to do similar, serving in religious life and also being involved in scientific, teaching, nursing and technological work.
ย .
.
Mother Angelica is another example.
A sassy-mouth lady who didn’t hold back, Mother Angelica founded EWTN, but she did not neglect her primary vocation as a religious sister to do so.
ย .
Her vocation came first and although she founded EWTN, as it grew, it demanded management an attention that she would not have been able to do without compromising her vocation as a sister.
ย .
So EWTN had other people that ran and managed it, even though Mother Angelica still remained and remains its Foundress.
ย .
Now, not all of us will be called to live out our vocations (either as religious sisters or as wives) while doing great, life-changing work like Mother Angelica.
ย .
To be honest, it is a sin of arrogance, pride and presumption to expect that we all would live out our vocations like Mother Angelica or St Gianna.
ย .
Our Lady IS our template.ย  Follow her example; make your vocation (whether it is your religious community or your husband and children) your priority, and then if God calls you to something more within THAT vocation, go for it.
ย .
Having a vocation is simply how God calls you to love and serve Him FIRST!
ย .
He must always come FIRST!
ย .
If you are called to the religious life, you are called to love and serve God, through loving and serving others, via the religious community.
ย .
If you are called to marriage, you are called to love and serve God, through loving and serving your husband and children, and service DOES involve sacrifice, including the sacrifice of putting your career on hold for awhile so that you can attend to the physical and psychological needs of your preschool children.
ย .
When you serve and submit to your husband, you are serving and loving God.
ย .
When you serve and sacrifice for your children, you are serving and loving God.
ย .
And when you put your career ahead of your husband and children’s needs, you telling God that your selfish desires take priority over obedience to Him.
ย .
I hope this clarifies things a bit more for you.ย  God bless!
ย .
ย .
Mary, Cause of our salvation, pray for us!
ย .
Mary, Throne of Wisdom, pray for us!

  1. I have encountered men shaming women for their education and looking really down on them. – is this a shaming tactics to lower women self value? Of course only 18-22 yrs old women have value for them Every other one is a feminist, a thot or a frustrated used up hooker acourding to them. They also seem to believe that womens life should revolve around men even if that women is single. Are those MGTOW trying to act as trads in order to preach flase teaching and destroy women?

    1. TBH, any guy that supports or displays MGTOW mentality is not of Christ and definitely not Catholic.

This should not even be a topic up for discussion as these men should already be avoided.

Both them and their ungodly opinions do not matter and should not have any impact on you.
