Our Lady, Queen Of The Bees

The Blessed Virgin Mary isn’t just Queen of the May, but she is also Queen of the Bees, and today, World Bee Day, I decided to address this.

Isn’t it just perfect synchronicity that World Bee Day occurs in the month of May, which is devoted to Our Lady?

But what do bees have to do with the Virgin Mary or even with Catholicism?

Bees and their preservation is not just the domain of woke leftists liberals, but a special interest for anyone is keen to preserve our ecosystem on this beautiful green earth that God gave to us.

When God created Man and Woman, He put us in charge of the earth and its ecosystem, with a command that we nurture it.

Bees help to maintain biodiversity and they are very important pollinators of trees, flowers & our food.

Nearly 90% of the worldโ€™s wild flowering plants depend entirely, or in part, on animal pollination.

As do 75% of the worldโ€™s food crops.

Sadly, bees are currently in serious decline due to habitat loss, climate change, pesticides, amongst other things.

Nurturing and creativity are feminine traits.ย  Often this is expressed to childbearing and motherhood, but many of us often fail to express these traits in other ways such as through creative skills/hobbies and through nurturing of plant or animal life.

If you truly want to enhance your femininity and feminine allure, I encourage you to tap into your nurturing and creative side.

A good way to do this is via gardening or even bee-keeping.

Nurturing life is powerful and makes us co-creators with God and with the Blessed Virgin.

Hence the importance of having a Mary garden.

Having a Mary Garden can be both spiritually fulfilling and ecologically beneficial for our Earth and the creatures who dwell in it, especially the bees.

How wonderful that the month of May when flowers in our gardens and neighbourhoods begin to burst into life is also the month dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The month of May is definitely is a month for devotions to the Blessed Virgin, through special prayers and hymns, a May crowning, praying the rosary more often and of course, growing or tending to your Mary Garden.

Through the simple act of honouring the Virgin Mary via a Mary Garden, you play a small but very significant part in increasing biodiversity, improving the ecosystem, preserving the bees, providing food for pollinators, offsetting carbon, assuring future generations of foods and crops and restoring the planet.

The best thing is that regardless of where you live, be it in the city or the countryside, you can create a Mary garden with the space you do have, in your yard, balcony or patio.

Bees are also symbols of Our Lady.

The bee is a symbol of Our Lady.
Because of its good working habits, the small honeybee is a well-known symbol for work, good order, and diligence. Less commonly known is that the bee is a representation of virginity.
The worker bees have no part in the reproduction of its species, except for that of feeding the baby bees.
The responsibilities of โ€œbee parentingโ€ are left to the queen bee and the drones.
Since virginity is a virtue we find exemplified to its highest capacity in Our Lady, the bee quite naturally becomes one of Her symbols. – SOURCE

You can learn a little bit about bees and their importance in the Bible and in Catholicism HERE.

There are many ways you can honour Our Lady, Queen of the Bees.

GROW A MARY GARDEN

Growing a Mary Garden isn’t just about creating an attractive outdoor space in your home, but it is also a way to honour Our Lady, to be a silent witness to the Catholic faith, to improve your feminine allure, and to partake in co-creation.

When planning your Mary Garden, be sure to go for plants, flowers, and seedlings that are native to your country and climate.ย  This helps to improve biodiversity.

Don’t forget to complete your garden with a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

BUILD A BEE HOTEL

Bee hotels are used as breeding places by cavity-nesting solitary bees like Mason bees, Leafcutter bees, and Yellow-faced bees.

These bees live alone, not in hives. They do not make honey, but they still play a vital role in pollinating flowers, plants, and crops.

None of these bees are aggressive, so they are fine around children and pets.

A bee hotel can be as simple or as elaborate as you like and youย can even purchase bee hotel kits too.

TAKE UP BEE-KEEPING

Not only is this a wonderful learning activity for the family, if you have children, it can also be a source of income for you.

There are so many things you can sell from beekeeping, including honey, beeswax for candles, and even simple skincare products.

Due to quarantine and this pandemic, there will be an increased interest in small-chains and locally-sourced produce for the foreseeable future, so if you have lost your job, suffered a massive pay cut or are simply looking to increase your income, I encourage you to look into beekeeping.

You do not even need a lot of space to keep bees and create a profitable business from this.

Beekeeping can also be done in urban spaces.

I know people who started a beekeeping business from their patio space.

From bees, we can learn not just the spirit of community and creativity, but also the virtue of hard work and resourcefulness, especially during uncertain times like these.

Our Lady, Queen of the Bees, pray for us.

  1. Just got back from the Our Lady of Guadalupe Basilica in Mexico City. The basilica is designed with a theme of a bee hive (with Mary as the Queen Bee). You can find pictures of the interior with hexagonal lights, etc. If you understand this motif, the architecture of the basilica makes a lot more sense.

  2. Very beautiful and informative.
I have a Mary garden here by the sea, in honour of Mary, Star of the Sea.

I love beeswax candles so much. I keep them beside my statue of Mary and Jesus, inside. ๐Ÿค—
