Parents rejoice!! Apparently, there is now a solution for paedophiles and sex offenders.

For the very few among us who do not know what paedophilia is, it is a psychosexual disorder in which adults or anyone aged 16+ have sustained, focused and intense sexual urges, desires and drives towards underaged, prepubescent children.

These urges and drives cannot be controlled in the paedophile. Also, there is no cure or solution for paedophilia…….until now.

According to THIS, paedophiles will be made to under chemical castration, under new laws for sexual offences.

Okay, okay. Pardon the……premature jubilation (pun totally intended), but chemical castration isn’t exactly a cure for paedophilia.

Is it a viable solution, though?

Let’s take a look at what chemical castration is, shall we?

Chemical castration is a reversible treatment done to reduce both libido and sexual activity.

And therein lies the problem.

It is reversible, it is more of a suppressant than a cure and more importantly, it works on the biochemical processes of the body.

Paedophilia extends beyond just the biological functions of the paedophile.

Like every other form of abuse, paedophilia is about POWER AND CONTROL, and the DEGRADATION of the victim.

This results in a very complex set of patterns and behavioural mechanisms that are deeply ingrained within the paedophilia and within the brain. In fact, so deeply ingrained that these are part of the paedophile’s personality and character. It is not WHAT they are; it is WHO they are.

So while castration might work on suppressing (not eradicating) the deviant sexual urges, it does not control, suppress or eradicate the deeply ingrained urges and drive to abuse the victim.

The only viable cure for paedophilia and sexual offences, including rape, is something that suppresses and/or eradicates the person’s character and personality.

The only cure is a complete lobotomy.

This is the only treatment that would ensure the safety of the paedophile’s -victims, past, present and future.

“Woah there, Paige”, I hear you say “A lobotomy?! Isn’t that just a little bit drastic?!”

Yes, it is, but it offers a permanent and definite solution.

Other options include:

Permanent incarceration of the paedophile – shut away from society for the rest of their lives.
A death penalty.

The ethics and morality of this conundrum are for you to determine.

Is it more morally acceptable, ethical and/or merciful to sentence the paedophile or sex offender to a castration, permanent incarceration, the death penalty or a lobotomy?

And for whom is it more morally acceptable, ethical or merciful – for the criminal or for his/her past, present and possible future victims?

May our Lady protect us and our loved ones.

May she intercede for us that we receive the graces of wisdom, situational awareness and discernment as we navigate this world and as we parent our children in these dark times.
