Catholic Contributions To Science

There is a general assumption that one cannot be a faithful Catholic and pro Science.

This is completely erroneous, but can explain why there is much resistance from several Catholics today to certain medicines, vaccinations & even something as basic as wearing a face mask during this pandemic.

Science and religion are compatible with other and you can be a faithful Catholic whilst also being a scientist or following science recommendations.

So this post is about all the amazing Catholics who have made significant contributions to the church role of science.

You will notice a few nuns on this list too.

Some people think I advocate for women to not have a career. Nothing could be further from the truth.

You can have a career, even as a scientist, as long as your vocation (be it as a wife and mother, or as a nun) comes first!

On to the list, beginning with a scientist-priest who taught us that plague can be prevented by isolation, quarantine, and the wearing of face masks

BISHOP NICHOLAS

Science is how God reveals a little of His mysteries & omnipotence to us. It is how He lets us in to the discoveries of the world around us and it is how He leads us to medical, healing and life-saving therapies.

As you can see, one can be a faithful Catholic and also be pro science.

The Catholic Church isn’t anti-science and neither should we.

And if you are in STEM, please carry on the good work. The world needs more of you – not just brilliant scientists, but brilliant scientists who are also Catholic.

Maria, Sedes Sapientiae, ora pro nobis
