70 years ago today, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II became Queen of the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and all the realms.
She is the longest-serving British monarch and the first to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.
– Queen Elizabeth II
When she acceded to the throne, Churchill was the UK’s Prime Minister, Truman was America’s President and Pope Pius XII was head of the Catholic church.
โI declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your serviceโ – Princess Elizabeth, 1947.
Last night, the Queen issued a message of thanks and reaffirms that her commitment to duty and service is for life: โIt gives me pleasure to renew to you the pledge I gave in 1947 that my life will always be devoted to your serviceโฆI look forward to continuing to serve you with all my heartโฆ..Your Servant, Elizabeth R.โ
โYour Servantโ โฆ the way she signs off her letter says it all…..the most powerful woman in the world, yet full of both gratitude and humility.
Whether you agree with monarchies or not, you have to admire a woman who was never supposed to be queen taking on the role & giving her life to the service of her country.
Through seven decades of enormous social change, The Queen’s extraordinary duty, dedication and devotion to the UK, the Realms and the Commonwealth has remained a constant.
She has, for 70 years, remained a rock of stability and a beacon for our values.
To do any job for 70 years is an amazing achievement, but to do it with such consistent dignity & selflessness is even more remarkable.
And as the sun sets on this historic day of the Queen’s 70th Jubilee, a rainbow appeared over Sandringham House, where she is currently residing.
A divine sign indeed that the Crown did find its way to the right head and a reminder that the monarchy has always been ordained by God.
The rainbow has always been an auspicious sign of Godโs promise to us, his people.
Her Majesty the Queen has certainly kept her promise to God through thick and thin, so she deserves this visual reminder that her faithfulness is known to all of us, and we hope, also to God.
Her Majesty the Queen.
Head of the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth, and all the Realms. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Devoted public servant.
What a legacy.
God save the Queen!!
Domine, salvam fac reginam nostram Elizabeth
